General Guide (All Licensures)
Practitioners holding an active Ohio license may provide teletherapy services to Ohio residents. The Laws and Rules [PDF] of the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, & Marriage and Family Therapist Board defines “teletherapy” as services provided online or via phone. See the full rules and laws for more information on standards of practice and professional conduct. According to Ohio standards of practice and professional conduct for electronic services delivery, practitioners providing counseling, social work or marriage and family therapy via teletherapy to persons physically present in Ohio shall be licensed in Ohio.Â

Teletherapy included with a state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards, including general rules of professional conduct, as well as legal and practical decisions.Â
Chapter 4732.01 of the Ohio Laws and Administrative Rules for Psychologists defines “Telepsychology" as the practice of psychology or school psychology by distance communication technology, including telephone, electronic mail, internet-based communications, and video conferencing.
