Teletherapy Guide for New Mexico

General Guide (All Licensures)

Practitioners holding an active New Mexico license may provide teletherapy services to New Mexico residents.

COVID NOTE: a public notice [PDF] dated December 2, 2020 states that, during a public health emergency, individuals licensed under the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board (Board) are permitted to provide telehealth services to clients under the New Mexico Telehealth Act. They Must Practice in line with the New Mexico Telehealth Act. Also see Article 25 of the Health and Safety Chapter (24) of the Current New Mexico Statutes Annotated 1978.

Psychology

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards.

Social Work

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. 

Marriage & Family Therapy

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. Marriage and family therapists are permitted to apply for Licensure by Reciprocity. There is a $75 non-refundable fee.

Counseling

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. Counselors  are permitted to apply for Licensure by Reciprocity. There is a $75 non-refundable fee.
