Teletherapy Guide for Kentucky

General Guide (All Licensures)

Practitioners holding an active Kentucky license may provide teletherapy services to Kentucky residents.

COVID NOTE: Out-of-state psychologists, counselors, and marriage family therapists are permitted to provide teletherapy services to Kentucky residents until the state of emergency has been lifted. Practitioners must first register with the state before providing services. See the following memo from the Department of Professional Licensing. Psychology

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. For additional details see Statute 391.140 pertaining to Psychology and Teletherapy.

Social Work

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. For additional details see Statute 335.158 pertaining to Social Work and Teletherapy. 

Marriage & Family Therapy

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. For additional details see Statute 335.380 pertaining to Marriage & Family Therapy and Teletherapy. 

A minimum of 15 continuing education credits in teletherapy must be completed before providing teletherapy services. For details see 201 BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS Chapter: \201\032.110 (ky.gov) (section 3). 

Counseling

Teletherapy included with state license. Must abide by all in-person care standards. For more information see Statute 335.515 pertaining to Counseling and Teletherapy, as well as the following memo from the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors.
