When we just read study materials, it's a passive process, increasing the chances of having to go back and read again, and ultimately increasing frustration because you literally just spend hours reading!
Make your time and energy work for you by priming yourself with the material, identifying areas where you'll need to pay more attention, ask yourself questions about the concepts, and recall the information. When you read with a purpose (finding answers to your questions), you're actively trying to meet a goal, rather than checking a box. You'll pay more attention, be more engaged with the material, and ultimately remember more!
