It's important to differentiate between the different types of bias and attributional errors that people make about themselves and others. When understanding why behaviors occur, people often look to dispositional (internal) attributes or situational (external) factors. When studying these biases, it's not only important to understand what each one is, you must also be able to differentiate between each concept or understand what makes each bias unique from the other -- otherwise they all start to sound the same!
The Actor-Observer Bias or Actor-Observer Effect
We attribute our own behavior to situational factors (e.g., characteristics of a task, social situation, or physical environment) and other's behaviors to dispositional factors (e.g., mood, ability, or motivation).
