Are you familiar with the work of Eli Ginzberg? You may need to be for your exam. Let's take a moment to refresh your knowledge
Eli Ginzberg created the Theory of Career Development in 1951. This theory posited that individuals make an important compromise when they choose a career and that this compromise is based on a handful of personal and developmental factors. The theory also identified three developmental periods from which we choose our careers:
Fantasy (ages 0-11) - Exploring career options through play and imagination
Tentative (ages 11-17) - Beginning to match values with responsibilities and options
Realistic (ages 17-early 20s) - Exploring alternatives and honing in on options
Ginzberg later revised his theory to continue the process of career development into later life. Ginzberg's theory is the first developmental career development theory, making it especially influential in the field of psychology.
