Spotlight on Frank Parsons

Speaking of career counseling, how much do you know about Frank Parsons?

You may have heard Frank called the "father of counseling" or the "father of vocational guidance." (Formal invitation to review my Father Flashcards challenge from my very first post here).

Notably, Parsons founded what was essentially the first career counseling center, and he carved out career counseling or vocational guidance as a distinct field of study and practice.

For your exam, you should also associate Frank Parsons with the "trait-and-factor" approach to career counseling. This philosophy emphasized the importance of matching our personal qualities (personality, skills, etc) with our career.

Other associations with Parsons to store in your exam brain: Vocation Bureau (created it), Choosing a Vocation (drafted it), school/college counseling (advocated for it).

What do you associate with Parsons? Does anything confuse you about him?
