Continuing our assessment thread, do you know the differences between achievement and aptitude tests?
To generalize, aptitude tests measure the test-taker's potential to perform a certain skill. These tests are generally designed to make predictions about the individual's capacity to learn or acquire new abilities. An example of an aptitude test is the fitness test commonly administered in schools. I have memories of trying to do as many pushups as I could bear just to prove to myself that I could. What aptitude tests do you remember taking?
An achievement test, by contrast, measures what the test-taker has already learned or mastered. You can probably study for an achievement test more than for an aptitude test. An example of this is a quiz administered by a teacher to assess whether her students read their book assignment.
Test yourself: Is the NCE/NCMHCE an aptitude test or an achievement test?
