Interobserver Agreement Part 5: Mean Duration-per-Occurrence

Mean duration-per-occurrence IOA can be used for the same behaviors as with total duration IOA. It provides a more precise agreement calculation is required than with total duration IOA.Ā 

Mean duration-per occurrence IOA calculates agreement for each occurrence. Then, agreement is calculated by using the sum duration agreement for each occurrence and dividing by the total number of occurrences. An example is provided below.Ā

Sum of agreement: 0.75 + 1.0 + 0.8 = 2.55

Sum of agreement/number of occurrences: 2.55/3

Mean duration-per-occurrence agreement: 0.85 or 85%
